Get Out of a Rut...

Writer: SarahSarah

Most of us find ourselves in a place from time to time where we don’t quite feel like ourselves, we have low motivation, or we just don’t have direction to accomplish what’s next. We often refer to these feelings as “Being in a rut.” We know there is smooth ground to either side of us, but we can get a bit stuck in the dip and often must figure out how to get out.

The reasons we usually get stuck in the dip are because of trauma, long term overstimulation, or lack of vital nutrients. Trauma happens to all of us throughout our lives. It can be something small that slightly throws us off or a large traumatic event that may take a lot of healing. Trauma can be physical such as a car accident, fall or even riding a very intense roller coaster. Emotional trauma from a death, fear, losing a job or a relationship can send us off course. These events can stand in the way of our feelings of being grounded and connected to the earth.

Overstimulation, especially over a prolonged period of time can leave us feeling ungrounded and disconnected. Some of the most common means of overstimulation today are social media, living in a constant fight or flight mode and addiction to stress. We must be proactive in managing our minds in this fast-paced, information-rich world.

Another tremendous impact on our health and emotions is vital nutrients. We live in a world of convenience and low-quality materials, concerning what we put into our bodies. When we are putting into our body chemicals, preservatives and often substances that have not been alive, or hasn’t recently we but our bodies and minds at great risk. Lack of vital nutrients will lead to sleep, energy and hormonal problems which can lead us to feeling less than ideal.

Let’s talk about some basic practices that can be put in place to redirect us to the clear, smooth path we are looking for…

1. Grounding: After a traumatic encounter, whether it be large or small we can become ungrounded. There are two ways to help us re-ground ourselves. The first is through the physical earth itself. Simply take off your shoes and find a nice plot of grass, sand, or dirt to step on. Close your eyes and take a moment to imagine your magnetic connection to the earth and express your gratitude for your home on earth and the life it provides you with. If you do not have the opportunity to go outside barefoot you can do a mental practice of grounding by find a comfortable seat or standing and imagine roots running from your body deep into the earth. Picture them growing deeper and deeper and even miles to the center of the earth, again showing your gratitude for all the earth does to supply you with life.

2. Overstimulation: Simplify your life. Even if it’s only one small thing at a time. Maybe there is an event, person or item that is no longer serving your best self. Give yourself permission to release it from your life. Reduce your time on social media and other media. Take control of everything that enters your mind. Have a dedicated morning and night routine that includes meditation.

3. Vital Nutrients: Begin with proper hydration with sole water and lots of fruits and vegetables. I also recommend Maca Root powder, which is amazing for hormonal regulation at any age. Magnesium and Fulvic Acid are a great way to get some of those vital nutrients, that are missing from most of our foods, back into your body. These nutrients will help your body and mind function at a much higher level.

Remember to keep going and never give up, even if you don’t feel progress at times. One little change at a time will lead you to a better place and one day you will just wake up and see how far you have come.
