You feel at your wits end as you might boil over with emotion at any moment. But where are these emotions being stored? And why are they about to boil over? All of us have had moments where we feel like we are about to explode with frustration, anger, sadness, anxiety, happiness, excitement and more. There are moments when we wonder where all these emotions came from and why they are so intense within us.
First, we must understand what is going on within us…
Every emotion is an energy. The human body is made up of electricity from our heart beating to our nervous system and even our thoughts and emotions. As we experience and feel life, we take on different fields of energy that are around us. Often the energy we feel is chosen by our subconscious minds. You might have noticed that if there is someone who is really excited about something, that energy passes to others in the vicinity. Have you ever been in a great mood and went to check out at the grocery store and the person checking you out is in a very down and negative mood and how this energy can affect your mood? You might have also experienced a time when someone had a very negative mood, but you had already chosen, whether consciously or subconsciously, to remain in your state of joy and that negative energy did not affect you. We can all see that thoughts and emotions are very powerful fields of energy.
Now since emotions are energy, they must be stored somewhere…
The energy of emotions and feelings will run through most every system of your body but when they continue to build up, they are usually stored in the muscles. Have you ever noticed that you are doing all the right things? Eating healthy, exercising, and doing all the right healthy things but you still feel physically and emotionally drained? Well, tension and build up must be released first. And this release comes from the muscles and sometimes the build up in our different systems and organs.
Our bodies store things that have happened to us including excitement, guilt, love, anger, sadness and more. Trauma we have experienced needs to be released and when it’s not, we see people that hold on the emotional and physical problems for many years.
This is where yoga comes in…
In yoga we become very aware of ourselves on an emotional, physical and spiritual level. More so than most any other form of exercise. Yoga is not just for physical health. It is combining each of these elements to reach a state of peace. When we create the space to draw our minds inwards to such a deep level, we will often feel emotional release such as crying, laughter, excitement or even anger. It is important to just acknowledge that this emotion has been stored within you, release judgment and allow the emotion to release. As you continue to practice you will be able to free up so much space within you and create a healthy flow of emotional release on a regular basis so that you don’t get stuck with build up from the past.
I encourage you to find the “Emotional Release Session” at Whole Life Mind and Body. It is a combination of asana (physical poses) and dhyana (meditation) that work together in harmony to help release built up emotions. Let’s continually participate in a lifetime of healing and joy.
